Catalog Description An introductory course designed to familiarize the student with the techniques and musical styles necessary for performing in a jazz combo. The roles played by each instrument will be explored and examined in detail. These techniques will then be employed by the students in performing assigned music together. 4. Course Objectives The student will: Distinguish and differentiate aurally the sections of form within intermediate-advanced jazz compositions. Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of intermediate/advanced-level chord progressions. Demonstrate proficiency in his/her instrument the ability to utilize intermediate/advanced-level scales appropriate to jazz improvisation. Demonstrate proficiency in performing specific repertoire at the intermediate-advanced level. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Large instrumental rehearsal room with piano and music stands b.
